Pele Vaifale Alaovai of Leauva’a and Aleisa faces a water problem.

The 30 year old told Village Voice they have been stuck with this problem for five years and they deserve help.

He is currently staying with his family at his wife’s village of Aleisa.

“We don’t have access to water because the government’s water cannot reach our area of location,” he tells Village Voice.

“It’s been five years since we requested help on this matter but we haven’t heard anything yet.

“We pay $100 each time to get our water delivered. 

“It’s a struggle to live like that; getting water that way, because it’s expensive for us and we are already struggling as it is to budget the pay I get for everything else. We barely have money to save because we spend money on water and a whole lot of other essentials.”

Pele works at Aleisa. He guards, clean and looks after a cattle farm for one of the families there. 

“I have two kids in school which is why it worries me more about our no water situation.

“Working is fine because it’s easy and I can handle everything on my own but when it comes to water; you know it’s a different matter and it’s hard to live with that with no access at all. 

“I’m a hard working person because I know that if I don’t sweat to do my work; my kids will also get nothing. Whenever I get paid I never forget to contribute to church obligations as well because it is a must for me. I mean who doesn’t want to thank God through this way for everything that he has done for us?”

Pele was on his way to visit his parents when Village Voice approached for an interview.

“I know Aleisa is far away from Leauva’a but I don’t mind walking because these are all things I’m strong enough to do but with water; we need help. We only have a water tank but can we guarantee that we can afford water in the future?

“I need water access. I need access to the government’s water and this is for my sake and family’s sake especially my little kids.”
