Digicel allows joy to rise for the sick children

The sick children of the Paediatric Ward at Moto’otua Hospital got to feel the spirit of Christmas when Digicel staff brought Santa to visit and gave out lovingly wrapped presents for each child.

For them, Christmas is all about the presents and having fun outside, it is unusual for Christmas to be spent in the hospital.

The phenomenal lesson to all of us is that with this visit, it is a leveler for the children, with the Christmas presents, they will not be thought of by the other kids’ as the ones that missed out on Christmas.

This was the 5th year Digicel had continued with this Christmas tradition where each staff donates presents to give to the children at the Moto’otua Hospital.

Chairman of the Digicel Board of Directors, Fiaailetoa Pepe Fruean explained that it was one way to help them enjoy their stay in the ward during the festive season.

“The joy in it for us is the thought of how you can make the Christmas spirit rise for yourself and how you can make it rise for someone else. When you feel joy that deeply and you recognize that somebody cared enough about you and showed you love, you will never forget that,” said Pepe.

It was a visit that was appreciated not only by the children and their parents who would also be spending Christmas nursing the young ones at the hospital but it was also a grateful experience for the doctors and nurses at the ward.

About 20 staff paraded through the hospital isles dressed in Santa hats and happily distributed gifts to every child including their young brothers and sisters who were also present.   Digicel takes this opportunity to wish all the children of Samoa and all the staff at the Moto’otua Hospital a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.
