Church and Bible hold the answers

Get your household in order and everything else will fall into place.

That’s the message from Suitulaga Lio who believes most of the problems today are caused because families do not get their priorities right.

“Instead of the father taking his children to church on Sunday, he would rather stay home and drink beer,” he said.

“The head of the family must always lead by good example.”

Suitulaga from the village of Vailele said this is also responsible for the growing incidents of domestic violence, incest and other vile crimes within the home.

The 50-year-old said that normally within families, most people usually use making lunch on Sunday as an excuse to not attend church.

“This is what happens when they have too many problems and they choose to keep it to themselves instead of sharing with others or look for people to talk to and going to church,” he said.

He believes that the gospel has everything we need in this life and that the God that we serve is a God of abundance.

“The word of God shapes our paths into the right direction,” he said. “It speaks about life, hope and wisdom. The only way for us to have a happy life is through the word of God itself.”

The father of four said that going to church refreshes your mind for the following week.

“Going to church on Sunday prepares you mentally for the challenges of the upcoming week. Start Monday morning and you start off fresh for you have the message of the Lord planted within your heart to guide you throughout the entire week.”

“You go on Sunday and pray to God for guidance and to show you the way. Despite being poor and not have anything the Lord will always provide,” he told the Village Voice.

According to Suitulaga the way of living is not expensive, he is grateful for what he has. He also mentioned that the reason our people are struggling is because they are too lazy to work.

“Within my opinion the way of living is not expensive. We as Samoans within this new generation want everything to come easy, such as cheap products from the stores.

But we need to work hard within our lands, grow crops like how our ancestors did then we will not face these problems.

Some people are mostly complaining about the government not doing their job right but it is not them it is our own people that are too lazy to work,” he said.

Suitulaga is certain if our own families are in order and they are well off then the government would have fewer problems to worry about.

“It all starts within our families; if they are not stable then so will be the government.”
