The popular reality television show Survivors is back in Samoa.

Though, this time it is the South African installment of the international franchise, and is hosted by South African actor and businessman, Nico Panagio.

Last year’s edition of the show “Survivor South Africa: Philippines” was shot in the South East Asian republic.

It was reportedly a major success, compelling South African subscription TV channel M-Net to continue the new season, and shoot it in Samoa. The show’s seventh season is titled “Survivor South Africa: Island of Secrets”.

Mr. Panagio announced the shooting location recently in a video which was widely circulated on social media.

“Survivor, the greatest social experiment on television, and we are doing it again. Filming has started on season seven of Survivor SA, and this time our setting is the stunning island nation of Samoa, in the South Pacific. Survivor SA: Island of Secrets starts 16 May on M-Net Channel 101,” he said.

A film crew that flew into the country to shoot the show – at an undisclosed location in Samoa – refused a request from Samoa Observer for an interview.

But M-Net head of publicity, Lani Lombard, confirmed the shoot and gave more details in an interview with South African entertainment online news portal El Broide.

“Nico has mentioned that filming has started, but for now all further details remain top secret. What we can tell viewers, is that they must be prepared for twists and turns unlike anything they’ve seen on the show before,” she said.

“It’s called Island of Secrets, after all. This group of Survivors consist of strong personalities from diverse backgrounds and age groups. Of course they know the ins and outs of the show. This makes every series more competitive than the ones that came before. They will have to play even harder and more strategically than castaways from previous seasons if they wish to go all the way.”
