The father of a girl diagnosed with cancer and fighting for her life in a United States hospital has appealed to Samoans to pray for his daughter.

Audrey Anusaga Lonise Lefono, 10, from the villages of Apia, Falefa, Luatuanuu and Leauvaa suffers from Acute Myeloid Leukemia, which is a form of cancer. She has been admitted at the Seattle Children’s Hospital in Washington, U.S.

Jerry Wayne Lefono told Samoa Observer that his daughter was diagnosed with Myeloidysplastic Syndrome (M.D.S.) in 2016 when they used to live in American Samoa, and she was later transferred to the United States due to her deteriorating condition.

He said Audrey has gone through chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant, which her sister donated.

She spent two years in remission and in August this year, the family found out that she relapsed with leukemia, which she is now undergoing treatments for.

Jerry said his daughter can get better, but she still needs a full bone marrow transplant. But before that, she needs to undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatment, before they can try a bone marrow transplant.

Audrey’s family is now praying for her recovery and they are asking the people of Samoa to join them in prayer according to her father.

“I would like to ask my people for prayers, continuous prayers for our daughter.

“The road that she has to face is a very hard and gruesome road because it takes a toll on her body, and we hope that her story will be one that reaches all of our people to unite in prayers for her.

“We would be very thankful and appreciative,” he added
