People say that there are a lot of changes in Samoa.

“But how come I haven’t seen any in my village?”

That is a question raised by Mesepa Seiuli of Manunu.

Speaking to the Village Voice, Mrs. Seiuli spoke of the fact that their village still does not have good water access. What’s more, their roads are still in poor condition.

 “Life has changed I know that, but the situation we have here with water and bad roads have been here way before I came into this world,” she tells the Village Voice. 

“I’m 69 now and nothing has changed for the betterment of this village.

“Our village is one of the villages that have issues with water and roads.

“We have water from our concrete water tank; one that the people of my village worked so hard for a long time ago for the sake of our people.

“That is what we still use up to now but the problem is that, because it’s a tank, water does not run consistently.

“Some days are good and some days are not but when it goes off, it takes us months to wait until it comes on again.

“The people have to walk to the river to do their laundry and fetch water when that happens.

“We need a good water system, our village is one of the furthest away from town, away from everyone but it’s a big village because it has been here for a long time.”

Mrs. Seiuli added that another problem they’re facing is the poor quality of roads which  affects access to public transport.

“You can see, how bad the roads are and how far it is for us here in Manunu.

“Buses barely come here because there are too many holes on the roads.

“So when we want to go somewhere, we either have to catch a ride with a few families here that have cars or just walk all the way to the main roads to catch the bus.

“You know with that kind of situation, it makes our village look dangerous and a place that’s hard to survive in.

“This place is peaceful, very good leadership by the village council but I still think that we deserve to be made better.

“There are a lot of changes that we need help with for the betterment of this village.”
