Miss Samoa 2015 – 2016, Ariana Taufao, has joined forces with the NRL in Samoa to deliver their Health and Wellbeing Programme.

Part of the NRL in Samoa’s holistic approach is covering subjects such as Health and Wellbeing. NRL in collaboration with Miss Samoa; emphasised the need of “partnership” for health and wellbeing.

The NRL activity this week with Ms. Taufao, is part of  their continued activities in Schools which aims at increasing awareness for school children to make easy and fun choices which is triggered by being active through physical activity programs with NRL while at the same time continuously reminding them and enforcing the different health messages.

The key health messages that was emphasised by the NRL Samoa with the help of Miss Samoa Ariana aligns well with not only the schools’ Health and Physical Education curriculum Samoa’s key development priorities which then contributes to the success of the Pacific Outreach program funded by DFAT Australia. NRL Health and Wellbeing addresses Health Messages which the Ministry of Health and its sector partners and private partners lobby such as Eating Well, Eat Local and Choose Smart.

The NRL Samoa programme this week encouraged children to ask and let the team know what they think is good health and also what they know is good for them.

NRL Manager Gabrielle Apelu says. “It’s amazing how well versed the kids are in knowing what nutrition is and what local foods we have in our own backyard.”

Miss Samoa said “Thank you to Gabrielle and team NRL in Samoa for inviting me to participate in this initiative. The idea of utilising educational outcomes through the process of giving back to the community in particular our schools is a winning combination and I, myself, have learnt along with the kids. It was an inspiring experience.”

She also said that as part of the Miss Samoa roles and responsibilities as an ambassador for Samoa this is one the key area whereby she aims to support and contribute too.
