Cabinet has yet to finalise the appointment of the Chief Executive Officer of the 2019 Pacific Games Organizing Committee.

This was confirmed by the Samoa Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (S.A.S.N.O.C.) Team Samoa Chef de Mission, Nynette Sass.

“We are yet to receive a confirmation from Cabinet about their decision over the appointment,” she said.

“So as of now we are still waiting for their decision of who has been appointed to this significant role.”

Nynette said she visited the Cabinet meeting last week for an answer, but there was no luck.

She hopes the appointment is finalised soon so that preparations can take another year as 2019 is not far away now.

Nynette also highlighted some of the sports facilities that need renovation work for the upcoming Games.

“The main places will be at the Apia Park,” she said. “The Apia Park Gymnasium needs an upgrade of the floor which has been corroded.

“The next one is the netball court at the Apia Park. It really needs work there after damages from cyclone Evan and the Apia Park track with some minor upgrades.

“We are also looking at the conditions of other sports complex, but I think it will be just upgrades.”

She says she was unsure of the cost for the total upgrades.

“I think that it will be up to the Samoan Government because they are the one that will be giving out the money for the work.”

Nynette also shared on the S.A.S.N.O.C.’s preparations leading up to the Games.

“We are now focusing on getting our team ready for the Commonwealth Games in April, and the Youth Commonwealth Games in October and then South Pacific Games in 2019.

“It’s all in place in our strategic plan which will be launched soon, which supports the development of sports in Samoa.

“So there’s lot of stuff in the pipeline now.”

As part of their preparations, a one-week workshop was conducted by the S.A.S.N.O.C. this week for local coaches to expand their knowledge and their profession.
