Although one life was lost in a car accident at Faleasiu last Monday, the Ministry of Police believe that Father’s Day weekend was largely a success in terms of road safety and public behaviour.

The Police Media Officer Su’a Lemamea Tiumalu said everything went well during the long weekend and the celebration of Fathers Day.  “I thank members of the public for their cooperation and their support during the celebrations,” said Su’a.

The public holiday was generally peaceful and quiet according to reports from the police stations except for minor driving infringements.  Su’a said the public was well informed about the long weekend and asked to drive with care and avoid any accidents.

“The accident at Faleasiu was the only one where a life was lost,” he said.

“I am unaware if there are any charges already filed, but my understanding is that the  investigation continues.”

Su’a also thanked the officers who were on duty during the public holiday.

“It’s not an easy task but we put the public’s safety first before we consider having holidays of our own.”
