Twelve people, including a matai, from Luatuanu’u, have been charged in relation to a rugby fight that broke out on Monday.

They will appear before Court on 24 April.

Police Media Spokesperson, Auapa’au Logoitino, confirmed this.

The fight erupted during a rugby match at Saoluafata between Luatuanu’u and Falefa.

It resulted in seven people and eight Police officers being hospitalised.

“All of them have now been charged with disorderly conduct and throwing stones,” Auapa’au said.

He said there are more people to be charged from the incident.

“For now, some of our Police officers are in the villages involved and they’re still investigating the incident and I believe that more people are yet to come in today (yesterday).

“The chiefs of Luatuanu’u brought 18 suspects and 12 were charged after yesterday’s investigation.

“The Ministry is working side by side with the villages in this matter and we thank them for their support.”
