Samoa Sportslotto has stepped up to help the Samoa Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (S.A.S.N.O.C.).

Yesterday, the Gambling Control Authority C.E.O, Tuala Tamalelagi Siaki, presented a cheque of $46,090 to S.A.S.N.O.C’s Chef de Mission, Nynette Sass, and President Fepulea’i Patrick Fepulea’i.

Tuala said the donation is to assist Team Samoa with their preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in April.

The support follows a request for assistance by S.A.S.N.O.C. to the Samoa Sportlotto recovery programs.

“It’s basically to support the athletes,” Mr. Fepulea’i said.

“At the moment, a few sports have proper recovery facilities, and I think only Samoan Rugby has all the facilities required for their recovery programs.

“Other sports such as weightlifting, where weightlifters train three times, is what we’re trying to do, finding ways to help these athletes.

“Recovery for any sports at the moment is a very important aspect for any athlete, athletes will also need ice baths after any high intensity training to recover and be able to continue their training programs the next day.”

Fepulea’i said the help will benefit not only weightlifting, but all the sports that will represent Samoa in the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Australia.

He says the fund will also help purchase an ice making machine for ice baths because this was part of their request for assistance.

Fepulea’i also acknowledged the Gambling Control Authority for the support they presented.

He said it was a timely financial assistance because the Commonwealth Games will start on April 4.

Team Samoa will be participating in seven sports including athletics, boxing, lawn bowling, rugby sevens, shooting, swimming and weightlifting.
