It’s all about the family

Family is everything.

Even if you don’t have much, it’s about taking care of each other, helping each other and making sure the burden of life is shared.

That is the opinion of Sina Toalepai from the village of Malie.

Speaking to the Village Voice yesterday, she said her husband and children are her focus.

Taking the children to school, making sure there’s always food for them and taking care of things around home when her husband goes to work.

“My husband works and he’s our source of income,” she said.

“I think what he earns is enough for us considering that we only have two little children and we mostly live off the land.”

“I can’t work because of my children, so I manage everything at home; as you can see, you caught me on my way back from the plantation.”

“I went to get some bananas and taro for Sunday’s to’onai.”

“You know nothing is that difficult if you have a small family.”

“That is why my husband and I decided to stay on our own, away from our own families so we won’t have to stress about so many things all the time.”

“We rely on no one but ourselves and we work to make our family better everyday.”

“I’m not saying that we’re perfectly happy because we all know life have ups and downs so there are times when we stress about where to find the money to do this and do that.”

“The fact is nothing is cheap anymore and nowadays it’s impossible for you to get a good job, no matter how much you try.”

“My husband and I have moments that we do get stress about situations especially when it comes to situations that require money but you know, at the end of the day, I feel okay because we have each other.”

“I am always content because I am blessed to have a family.”

“Sometimes life is hard, but you must try you best in order for you to make it through.”
