Mata’u returns as Alumni President

Mata’u Esau Lotu has retained his post as the President of Samoa J.I.C.A. Alumni Association for the fourth term. 

The appointment was made during the Samoa J.I.C.A. Alumni Association’s Annual General Meeting (A.G.M.) held at the Samoa Conference Centre, Sogi last week.

Asuao Malaki Iakopo has been retained as the Vice President for his third term.

The Audited Financial Report and the revised constitution was approved by the members, taking into account their feedback following extensive discussions during the Constitution review meeting held last month in February.  

The Constitution will now be presented to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour to be a registered incorporated association. 

The Constitution reflects good governance, expands on and clarifies the roles and objectives of the Alumni to provide leadership in its activities and operation. 

In his address, the President underlined that the most effective way to address issues of equity in today’s society requires a lot of involvement and association. 

The Alumni have made remarkable operational and financial successes over the years supporting communities through Volunteerism, Charity activities and Educational Programmes etc. 

The association elected four new executive members at its Annual General Meeting. 

The four new executive members are employees from various government ministries. 

One of the new elected executive members, Faustina Tupa’i said: “I am excited to join the alumni’s executive committee alongside the experienced and strategic professional individuals that help strengthen the association’s ability to take innovation to scale and increase our impact around the local community.” 

The Resident Representative of J.I.C.A, Tanaka Toshiaki, said: “As the Alumni Association sharpens its focus on improving the membership connection and its work of advancing equitable opportunities; we welcome the addition of the outstanding new Executive Committee members.” 

“It proves that sustainable success is possible by building on our own strengths and being a part of the J.I.C.A. Training Programs in Japan. This is another step forward for J.I.C.A. Alumni Association and I look forward to what Financial Year 2018-2019 activity brings. I am confident the association can provide a strong foundation for future projects.” 

The newly-elected Executive Committee comprise of:

• President: Mata’u Esau Lotu (S.F.E.S.A.)

• Vice President: Asuao Malaki Iakopo (M.N.R.E.)

• Treasurer: Trina Toese Gago (M.O.F.)

• Secretary: Lamauta Simanu Eteuati (M.O.R.)

• Ulu Shinn Ete (E.P.C.)

• Faustina Tupa’i (Consultant)

• Salima L Salima (M.E.S.C.)
