The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is helping to spread Christmas cheer this festive season.

It is doing this with the “Lighting the World” My Island Christmas event, which started last Friday.

On Tuesday night, the Tafatafa Ward, Pesega 2 Ward, Savaii Samoa Sagone Stake, Motoouta 1 Ward, Upolu Samoa South Stake dance groups performed.

My Island Christmas is not a new event, Elder Fata said. It started in 1992 but was stopped after the first temple had burnt in 2003.

In 2015, he decided to revive it.

The purpose of having this event annually is so that all sects of religions and people come together. The theme this year is to Light the World and there is no better way of lighting up the world than serving and sharing the experience together, Elder Fata explained.

He also explained that he is in support of the C.C.C.S. 13 days of Christmas countdown and further explained that My Island Christmas was not a competition.

“We have worked alongside other churches in hosting this event in the past times and we are grateful for the participation. But the whole purpose of My Island Christmas is for the whole nation and the spirit of giving, there is no competition. We have had a wonderful performance by the C.C.C.S. choirs the previous nights and as well as other organizations. So far it has been a spectacular,” Elder Fata said.

My Island Christmas will conclude on Sunday, 23 Dec.
