Graduation smiles at the N.U.S.

A total of 381 students from various programmes graduated yesterday under the National University of Samoa’s Technical and Vocational Training Programme.

The ceremony was held at the university’s gymnasium, graduates where parents, families and friends witnessed the occasion, where the students were presented with certificates in various courses.  

The Preliminary Certificate in Technical Vocational Educational and Training had 17 graduates with the Faculty of Health Science 14. The Faculty of Technical Education had 77 while three graduates were from the Faculty of Arts.  

The Faculty of Business and Entrepreneurship had 98 graduates, the Faculty of Science 46, and 126 from the School of Maritime Training. 

The top student in the Certificate in Computer Operating in the Faculty of Science was Lotelina Opelu.

The 21-year-old from Tuaefu, Asau, Sapapalii, and Sataoa dedicated her success to all the lecturers who taught her and her school mates at the university. 

“Without the help from my teachers, I would not have been able to possess the skills and knowledge that I have right now."

“It is with the knowledge acquired that she will pursue being a future Information Technology technician."

“I am simply overjoyed that my journey for this academic year has come to an end, I admit it was not easy I came across so many obstacles but my main challenge was the financial side,” she said.

Lotelina added that the support of her parents, Lapaloma and Opelu Opelu and families, helped her to overcame many obstacles.

Another top students was Sara Taimane Selu, who topped electro engineering within the Faculty of Technical Education to receive the Office of the Regulator Trophy. The Seumanutafa Dr. Hazelman Trophy for Best All Round NUS Horticulture student went to Dennis Asem while Samoa Observer trainee-journalist, Talaia Mika, was awarded the Journalists Association of Samoa (JAWS) Trophy for top journalism student.

The Manukau Institute of Technology Award for top tourism and hospitality student went to Maria Losa Hellesoe. While the Pio Faatiga was awarded the Samoa Water Authority (SWA) Trophy and a six months paid internship with the authority for being the top plumbing student.

The Leufisa Asiata Seumanutafa Memorial Trophy was claimed by top diploma in office management student, Gloria Aperaamo Segifili. Anuilagi Samuelu Elia received the Prime Minster Trophy for topping Diploma in tourism.
