With the everyday hardships, securing a stable job is the only way forward.

This is the belief of 20-year-old Sefo Siaki from the village of Sale’imoa. 

“Life here in Samoa is really hard now because if you don’t work, you won’t be able to survive and put food on the table for your family,” Mr. Siaki told the Village Voice team.

“After I left school, the only thing that came to my mind was to work and support my family through the plantation. I haven’t got a regular job to support my family, but the only thing I have now is work on the plantation.”

Mr. Siaki says his job was to provide his family with food from the plantation and his dad’s was to cater for the financial side because he was the only who worked.

“We also live together with my aunties at our house and sometimes her kids go fishing to provide for us. My banana patch here in the plantation is for food and money as well because I sometimes sell it over at the supermarket just down the Beach Road.”

Mr. Siaki adds he is also searching for employment to help him support his family.

 “I would like to get a regular job so I can make money to help my family and work on my plantation at the same time.

“My family is struggling so badly and I really need a job to support them because life nowadays is not that easy anymore.”

 Mr. Siaki added securing a regular job will not only helps his family, but it will also develop his experience in the labour market.
