The Moamoa Roosters Sports Club met on Wednesday to start its preparations for another full year of sports.

Present at the meeting were the Club’s Executive and Moamoa’s mayor, Tunai Onesimo Moli, and village representatives.

The meeting started with a prayer conducted by Rev. Avia Misa as Father Patele Vito Pa’u is overseas.

Also present was S.S.A.B’s Marketing Manager Asia Stanley to explain S.S.A.B’s sponsorship package for the Club for 2017.

The Club manages its village’s rugby and soccer teams.

The Club’s Secretary, Rachel Ng Lam, says the club’s aim is to develop the youth and foster peace and harmony within our village.

Well known radio personality and Club member, Kose Tevaga added that involving the youth in sports builds character.

“It instills discipline and keeps them out of trouble and a sport also allows them to get to know each other better,” said Mr. Tevaga.

This is important for a village like Moamoa, which is not a traditional village but is populated by people from all over Samoa.

The Club heard reports from their Head Coaches of rugby Gustav Slade and soccer Francis Lino about their team’s respective performances last year.

Moamoa’s Senior A Team defeated Marist St Joseph’s for the first time ever during Apia West Rugby Union annual 15’s competition.

Moamoa’s Seven’s team made the nation’s top eight teams after last year’s S.R.U Seven’s Rugby circuit and as a result has been invited to Vailima Marist St Joseph’s International Sevens Tournament next month.

Soccer did not fare so well but the coaches vowed to improve their performance this year.

S.S.A.B is again chosen to be the Club’s major sponsor for 2017.

Last year S.S.A.B provided uniforms for the club’s rugby soccer teams worth around $10,000.

S.S.A.B continues its sponsorship this year amounting to $3,500 cash plus weekly causal employment opportunities for the Club’s players.

One of Moamoa’s mayor Tunai Onesimo Moli expressed his gratitude on behalf of their village to S.S.A.B for its continued support over the years and urged others in his village to lend support to the Club.
