Samoa is being represented at the 10th Asia Pacific Red Cross Presidents Regional a conference in Manila, Philippines.

Leading the delegation is President of the Red Cross, Leiataua Jerry Brunt. He is accompanied by the Secretary General Namulauulu Tautala Maualaivao and a Youth Delegate and Board Member, Deborah Koon Wai You.

“The focus of the conference was discussing localisation of humanitarian action in a fast changing world,” Lei’ataua said.

“The conference saw a gathering of leaders, spokespersons and representatives from Asia Pacific and all over the world, as well as observing National Societies as a platform to discuss strategic issues, common concerns and learn from each other’s diverse contexts.”

Another issue highlighted at the conference was the impact of climate change.

Leitaua said the conference addressed sustainability, relevance and identity; climate, disaster migration and displacement; trust in institutions at risk; and connectivity transforming our actions.

“Another relatively important aspect of this conference is the inclusion of a youth forum and this affords the opportunity for the youths who are keen to be a part of the bigger picture and bringing positive change to the world.

“And our Youth Delegate and Board Member Deborah Koon Wai, who was eager to learn from her peers at the conference and return home and give back to our young volunteers.”
