Sonny Bill and Quade Cooper top list of players fans want to meet

Less than two weeks before the first Super Rugby clash in Samoa between the Auckland Blues and Queensland Reds in Samoa, the excitement is building.

As rugby fans prepare their gear, the entries of two lucky rugby fans will be selected from the Samoa Observer’s “ Clash of Colours Competition” today.

One Auckland Blues fan is set to receive two general admission tickets to the game, two Blues Eveni elei outfits and a chance to dine with any two Blues players of their choice at the Taumeasina Island Resort.

Another Queensland Reds fan will receive two general admission tickets to the game, two Reds Eveni elei outfits and a chance to dine with any two Reds players of their choice at the Sheraton Samoa Aggie Grey’s Hotel and Bungalows.

All one has to do is fill out an entry form and state the names of the players you’d like to meet and a reason.

Yesterday, the Samoa Observer officials rounded up the entries for the draw.

They stumbled across a few entries they’d like to share.

Although the Auckland Blues will be bringing over a stacked squad filled with Polynesian players to choose from, it seems, Samoan fans are only interested in four: Sonny Bill Williams (S.B.W.), Jerome Kaino, Charlie Faumuina and Reiko Ioane.

With only one entry wanting to speak to the coach, Tana Umaga.

To be fair, some reasons were sound.

One clever S.B.W. fan said, “It’s a golden opportunity I would like to be a part of.”

However the rest were quite an interesting read.

One Blues fan who wants to meet Jerome Kaino and Charlie Faumuina said, “Two of my fave All Blacks and I think if I were to win, my husband would love me more.”

Another fan who wants to meet the Blues Matt Duffie and James Parsons said, “It would be nice to have breakfast with someone even more famous than yourself.”

A Steven Luatua and Charlie Faumuina fan simply wants to meet them “because they are Samoan.”

It gets better.

Although the Queensland Reds hosts a number of solid, talented Polynesian players like Taniela Tupou, Samu Kerevi , Sef Fa’agase, it seems Samoan Red’s fans are only interested in one person: Quade Cooper.

A self proclaimed number fan of Cooper wrote down, “ # one fan of Cooper.”

Another Cooper fan just wants, “to know what they eat.”

And lastly, another Cooper fan said, “ I want to be popular like them.”

These were just a sample of the hundreds of entries.

The winners will be revealed at the live draw at Eveni Carruthers in town at 3pm.
