Savai’i turns up for Tautua

A huge crowd gathered at the Apita o Pisaga Hall in Salelologa yesterday to hear from the Tautua Samoa Party.

The occasion was the official launch of the Party’s General Election Manifesto. Party members were led by leader Palusalue Fa’apo II who outlined their vision for Samoa, should they win the General Elections in March.

In addressing the crowd, Palusalue lamented the failure of the Human Rights Protection Party to ensure equal opportunities for everyone. He said the Tautua Party worries about what Samoa will become should the H.R.P.P return to power.

With the country’s foreign debt more than a billion tala, Palusalue said the future generations of Samoa would be left to pay the debt, placing their security at risk.

Palusalue reiterated that it was time for a change.

H.R.P.P supporter, Tevaga Samilolo, welcomed the call.

Tevaga has been an H.R.P.P supporter for many years but he said he feels that Samoa needs a change.

“Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s enough candidates to challenge the ruling H.R.P.P,” said Tevaga. “I can see that they don’t have the strength to take over the Government.”

Despite all that, Tevaga is confident that even if the Tautua cannot win, there is a momentum behind the Tautua’s efforts.

“Samoa needs to change,” he said. “The cost of living is so high and we are not making any money.”

Tevaga feels that Samoa has suffered enough at the hands of the H.R.P.P.

Tuiala Fituofau, who is a farmer, shares the same views.

Tuiala said he is sick and tired of the government making promises they don't deliver on.

“The Government needs to change, so that we can see what Tautua can give us,” said Tuiala.

“I’ve listened to the Tautua’s plan and they’ve got some great ideas. Let’s give them a chance.”
