Hooked on fishing, hooked on Samoa

Sonja and Tony Robins from South Australia love the beauty of Samoa and her people.

But it’s their fishing trip with Troppo Fishing Adventures they will remember for a long time to come, and one of the reasons they will return to Samoa.

While Sonja hooked a sailfish, Tony battled and landed a blue marlin on a great fishing adventure.

It is just one of the things they love about Samoa.

“As far as Samoa goes, we hope it doesn’t change much,” they said.

“Beautiful place and it is what it is and that’s what we love about it.”

The couple arrived last Sunday and have not wasted a minute.

“On Monday we took a quick tour around the island and got to see a few waterfalls and swimming spots which were very pretty,” said Sonja, who also celebrated her 51st birthday on Thursday.

“On Tuesday we went fishing. Tony caught a marlin and I caught a sail fish and had a fantastic adventure with Troppo Fishing Adventures Samoa.

“On Wednesday we stayed in the resort and Thursday we hired a car.”

The Australians say there cannot be any other people more lovely than “the locals.”

“Such lovely people. At the markets, they came up to us and asked if we needed help, people were showing us where to go which it was lovely and very clean; I like that.

“Everybody is very friendly, everybody’s very helpful and we feel safe here.”

The couple said they wanted to head over to Savai’i for more sightseeing but have struggled to find a tour in Savai’i.

“If there was something I would love to see improve, it would just be the organizing of the tours and probably the roads, a little bit bumpy to drive,” laughed Sonja.

Tony says every place they go to is different and he appreciates what Samoa has offered him and his wife during their trip.

“We hadn’t been here before and where we come from, hardly anyone speaks of Samoa, they don’t know it, know of it so it’s a destination no one we associate with have thought of.”

The couple has a farming business back home. They are parents to two children.

Sonja and Tony are in Samoa for the duration of 10 days and are enjoying the comforts of Taumeasina Island Resort.
