Persons with disabilities have the right to access quality employment on an equal basis.

That is in accordance with Article 27 of the
International Convention on the Rights of Persons with disabilities, signed by Samoa in 2014.

Nuanua O Le Alofa (N.O.L.A.), the national advocacy organisation of persons with disabilities, is dedicating this week for its members to discuss, learn and practice the significant concepts of  employment.

Starting tomorrow, a five- day training at the N.O.L.A. conference room will be attended by 20 participants with various disabilities in the country.

All of them share a strong desire to enter the workforce.

The programme is designed to cater for the needs of those interested in learning new skills that can assist them in applying and engaging successfully in employment throughout various industries.

These include basic computer skills, resume and job application writing skills, as well as the capacity to engage with potential employers.

The event will also collaborate with businesses throughout Samoa, who will be presenting information on the process for applying for positions within their organisation, as well as tips and suggestions that will help to increase the successfulness of persons with disabilities achieving employment in the future.

M.F.A.T, N.U.S and A.P.T.C will also be presenting information for participants wanting to further their education and learn a particular trade or skill that will improve their qualifications and go on to assist them in finding future employment.

Overall, the training programme anticipates to contribute to building a workforce that reflects the abilities of all people in the community, including people with disabilities  by assisting businesses to acknowledge the need to produce programs and policies that  recognize the experiences,  observations  and diverse  needs of persons with disabilities.
