Provide schools with resources

Dear Editor

Re: Increase in church offerings

In this day and age, my friends at the makeki are puzzled by the lack of significant outcomes from all this money going into the Methodist church.

Apart from the great white elephant at Faleula where have all these monies gone to? Methodist education is struggling along towards the bottom of the education totem pole.

Levaula College should be the centrepiece of educational achievement for those students whose parents pay taulaga-ole-me towards the church, but, sadly, this is not the case. Methodist parents, but more particarly the ministers send their kids to other schools apart from the Levaula College. What does that say about the quality of education in the church?

The church should stop focusing its efforts on other developments, which have shown negative financial returns (too many to list here), and instead focus on getting Levaula College to be one of the top colleges in Samoa in which students want to attend and parents fervently wish their kids to be at.

Get better paid teachers, not ministers, and provide it with the resources worthy of a first class college. That is development worth pursuing and the returns in both economic and social (perhaps even spiritually) would be worth the investment.

When the koneferenisi sits down to properly nut out issues like that, then it is worth a koneferenisi.

Otherwise, the annual conference is a just a talkfest and an event to renew acquaintances and consume lots of size two’s.
