Young people think blessings come to you just like that but no, the way to success is working to make things happen in your life and to get what you want.

“I’m a hardworking man and I’d feel stupid if I didn’t do anything all day,” said Siaosi Mano from the Le’auva’a.

“I come here to clean this area and get everything that is sellable to earn my own money.

“Most Samoan people today are living on whatever they can find and whatever they have from the lands to survive and that is why I’m used to this life because I am a Samoan.”

Village Voice caught up with Mr. Mano when he was taking a break from his work at the plantation.

“This is our land and I came here to get some coconuts and Samoan cocoa because someone wanted to buy them from me.

“Working here to develop this plantation is what I do every day and it’s really good money because a lot of people come to me to ask to buy coconuts, cabbages, Samoan cocoa etc.

“I used to work at Frankie’s  Wholesale but after one year, I saw that my land needed a lot of care and that’s an every day job, I decided to stay home and work for by cleaning this whole environment and developing  my plantation to earn money.

Mr. Mano said life is easy because he works for himself as he doesn’t have a family of his own yet.

“It’s good because I don’t have to stress when I don’t have enough money or have little food because it’s just me.

“I already know how to get everything that I want and being on my own, it helps me to save as well.

Mr. Mano said the money he gets from his plantation crops that he sells, all goes to his savings account so he can pay for access to water and electricity.

“I’m trying my best to save all the money that I get so I can get my own tap water and access to electricity.

“That’s how it is right? You want something, you’ve got to work for it.

“Hopefully one day, I will be able to achieve this.”
