Twenty four teams but only one can claim the cup.
Today will be the finals of the 29th Vailima Marist International Sevens Tournament.
The teams fighting in the cup quarter finals feature a mixed bag of experienced teams and a wild card.
Back again to defend their title, the Auckland Marist team has secured a spot in the quarter finals.
The team fields a strong group of experienced players such as Ed Fidow and Alex Samoa.
It’s brother club, Marist St. Josephs’ has also secured a spot in the cup quarter finals.
Another team full of strong players is Vaiala. The team fields some of Samoa’s best rugby players with Manu Samoa’s Malu Falaniko, who scored most of Vaiala’s tries and many more expirenced sevens players.
Also, competing the cup quarter finals is power house Moataa and Apai Maroons. Both teams have a strong mix of players.
Back in the Moataa jersey is Manu Samoa Sevens’, Francis Ieremia, who was hurt during the H.S.B.C World Series leg in Wellington but was seen sprinting up and down the field in the pool games yesterday.
One of the biggest names sporting the Vailele jersey is Sevens Sensation, Mikaele Pesamino, who flexed his rugby skills and proved he still has the magic.
Arnold Meredith is the man to lead the SCOPA campaign in the cup quarter finals.
However, the greatest wildcard addition to the cup quarter final is, Satalo.
Satalo dominated their pool, beating out Lepea and surprisingly, the S.O.S Stallions.
Satalo had one of the biggest upsets of the tournament, beating out the much talked S.O.S Stallions who featured some big rugby names such as former All Black, Zac Guildford.
Satalo went on to beat the Stallions with a final score of 17-19.
Fighting in the bowl quarter finals will be Tufulele, Moamoa, Salelologa, Fasitoo Tai, Sasaai, Letogo, S.O.S Stallions and Tepatasi.
And last but not least, In the spoon quarter finals is Toaula, Vaimoso, Safotu, Taga, Magiagi, Leone, Afaluko RAS, AM and Lepea.
The Marist Sports Committee has brought in Referee, Jordan Way who is a certified referee World and has referred in the World Series.
In addition to the sevens, an F.A Golden Oldies Touch Challenge event will take place at Apia Park after the semi finals.
Today will be a day you will not want to miss.
