Pacific Guardians - The price of oil may have dropped to its lowest since 2003, but the stocks of newly-appointed Manu Samoa head coach, Namulauulu Alama Ieremia have shot through the roof.

Earlier this week, Namulauulu said 32 New Zealand based Samoan players have contacted him by email since the 2nd of this month.

This level of interest in representing Samoa is the result of networking with former team mates of his who now work in clubs, and at I.T.M. and Super Rugby level, the former All Black and Manu Samoa player told Samoa Capital Radio.

He says there has been a willingness to help with recruitment.

Namulauulu is particularly interested in forwards, especially in the tight five positions.

He says players skip availability for Samoa teams out of a concern it might harm their chances for I.T.M. and Super Rugby contracts.

Additionally overseas recruiters now target Under-20 players, he says.

“There is a different dynamic which we leaders should consider.

“Our job is to get that talent,” said Namulauulu.
