The Minister of Education, Magele Mauiliu Magele, has been awarded the "Exemplary Leadership Award in Education" prize at the Africa Education Leadership Awards.

Held at the Le Meridian Hotel in Mauritius last weeek, the award recognises the Minister’s contribution to the development of education in Samoa.

The Chief Executive Officer (C.E.O) for the Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture (M.E.S.C), Matafeo Falanaipupu Tanielu Aiafi, accepted the award on behalf of the Minister who was unable to attend the ceremony as he was engaged with the recent University of the South Pacific graduation held in Savai’i.

The M.E.S.C C.E.O was honoured to receive Magele's award.

Matafeo congratulated and thanked the Minister for his continuous commitment to the enhancement of the quality of education in Samoa.

"Let us all glorify our Heavenly Father for his forever blessings and guidance in the education of our beloved children."

Magele dedicates the award to all the children of Samoa.

This is not the first time he has been recognised as an outstanding leader in education.

Magele received a similar honour when education leaders from around the world convened at a global conference held in Mumbai, India, in 2013.

The Africa Education Leadership Awards highlight, recognise and reward leaders in various areas for their abilities to steer their particular area of businesses through turbulent times, applying the best of business modules to manage and keep their missions afloat.

Over 20 categories recognised the achievements made by selected high-profile educators and corporate business leaders from around the world, and honoured their great contributions towards their respective country’s post-recession economic development.
