Fiavaai Dimitri Tiatia has turned a new chapter in her life.

She is no longer a mother who stays at home, but a mother with a promising career ahead of her.

Fiavaai was announced as the 2017 dux of Tesese Institute during the school’s graduation yesterday.

Fiavaai said she did her best in school because she wanted to get a better job to take care of her family and children.

Fiavaai from the villages of Sinamoga and Lano in Savai'i, knew that there would be a great difference if she went straight to work instead of going to school first.

“I knew for sure if I went to work now going like this without having a diploma. I am going to struggle. As long as I have my diploma I am certain,” she said.

For Fiavaai, there is no greater motivation than her own children. The 38-year-old shared her own experience of being a mother and a student at the same time.

“Every day I would wait for my children to finish school then I take them with me to my classes and we would come home at 7pm.”

She wants nothing more than for her children to be witnesses of her journey through school and for them to take after her.

Fiavaai added the only challenge that she faced was when assignments started piling and there was so much to do, she barely gets any rest.

“We take four courses and by the time one assignment is due, the other assignment would also be needed to go in as well. Managing my time wisely was very crucial and I barely got any rest,” she said.

She is thankful for all the support from her family, her husband and friends that have helped her throughout her academic years.

Fiavaai’s mother, Ruta Mulitalo, said she was very happy and proud of her daughter and all her achievements and the glory goes back to God.

“My only advice for other mothers out there is to be strong, don’t be lazy to go back to school. There is still so much more out there in life. You are still strong enough to go back to school despite your age,” Fiavaai said.

Fiavaai believes this not the end for her as well because it was only the beginning to many greater things ahead.
