Grateful family says thank you

A family whose plight about water and electricity featured in the Village Voice last week is extremely grateful.

Lina Tauailoto and her husband, Tauailoto Leuma, appeared in the Village Voice last week where they highlighted their struggles. Among them was the trouble of finding $200 to pay for their water.

Yesterday, the Samoa Observer presented a donation from an anonymous helper who wanted to pay for the family’s water. They have also been promised more help from other anonymous donors.

Lina was in tears. She could not believe that strangers would give them money.

When the Village Voice went to visit the Tauailoto family yesterday, only Lina and her kids were at home while her husband was running errands in town.

“On behalf of my family; there are not enough words to describe how thankful we are for this huge contribution,” she said.

“Thank you to the good Samaritans that have given us their help, even though we may not know who you are, we really appreciate this and we can’t thank you enough.”

“We would also like to thank you Samoa Observer for your programme the Village Voice because it is through your writings that this kindhearted person felt the need to help.”

“All I can say is that God knows everything and he’s the one who has blessed us with such amazing things. Thank you so much again and may God bless.”

Last week, the family’s story moved many readers who offered to help.

“When we moved here, water was the first thing we had to work on getting,” Tauiloto Leuma said last week.

“At the moment, we’re using this other family’s tap water, but you know, I hope to have our own water supply soon so the kids won’t have to cross the road everyday to fetch water.”

“Nowadays no one is safe anymore and with so many fast cars passing by almost every minute, I get worried about the safety of my kids when they go to fetch water.”

The family also doesn’t have electricity.

“But we can cope with that. We just light the kerosene lamp to get through the night but it doesn’t happen like that for water. It’s not as easy as surviving without electricity and that is why we are trying to achieve this goal, having water that belongs to us.”

“Also, we don’t really worry too much about electricity because it’s expensive, well everything is expensive now, but electricity can wait.”
