Let it go, Mr. Attorney General!

Dear Editor,

I write regarding your news headline “Court queries A.G.’s request for an overseas Judge”. That also I had found, when the matter was originally mentioned that the Attorney General had to appeal the ruling by Justice Papali’i Rosella Viane for Fepulea’i Atila Ropati to be discharged without conviction:

I had thought, perhaps the Attorney General had the complete details of the case. Until I had seen the notes from Judge Rosella Papali’i as published recently in this medium, I then had thought the cost for an appeal does not fit the crime.

And now with an overseas judge to hear an appeal by the Attorney General, not only the financial cost that bothers my conscious, but for the perplex trepidation amiss to the integrity of our local judiciary system.

One had to weigh the culture of democracy against the effect morales for the right tool to complete a job. The essence of a bulldozer is far too much to crack a mere nut. Just a tiny rock would suit the purpose.

Afioga Fepulea’i had many times warned the drunken security officer to stop drinking that he was on duty; not once, not twice, not thrice, but on so numerous times but he had laughed as if it was a laughing matter.

This sort of creep would have deserved my breaking of the law hence if it was me, I would have broken the law right into very very tiny pieces to make my confinement really worth it. But when it comes to money especially for a small economy like we have for our country, every sene is imperative for better use to benefit the people of Samoa than lining up the pocket of some overseas judge.

Of course we do have all the required legal minds in Samoa right now to deal with our judiciary need.

Just let it go Mr. Attorney General I am happy with the sentence handed down by Justice Papali’i Rosella Viane; she’s a matai and she also pays taxes.

With my utmost respect,

Tofaeono Misātauveve Iosefo Joseph Hollywood
