Art and culture on agenda in Samoa, China exchange

Twenty one artists from Samoa are heading to China.

The delegation made up of representatives from the government, tertiary institutions, art schools and the private sector are attending a seminar on Culture and Art at the Central Academy of Cultural Administration in Beijing this week.

The seminar is part of the bilateral relationship between China and Samoa, based on the need for cultural undertakings development in Samoa. 

The Central Academy of Cultural Administration is an educational training institute responsible for the professional training of senior officers and senior managers of culture enterprises and N.G.O’s in China.

For the next three weeks, participants from Samoa will have the opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences with Chinese officials, experts and artists on culture and art education and management. 

They will be introduced to China’s policy on culture industry, public cultural service, safeguarding cultural heritage, artistic performance and artistic education.

But the seminar will not be one way traffic.

The participants in return will introduce the Samoan culture and art to their Chinese counterparts.

During the training, they will visit world cultural heritages in China and other culture and art facilities, including the Great Wall, Chinese Academy of Arts, Beijing Alley Museum.

“The human resources training is an important part of China’s Aid in Samoa,” a statement from the Chinese Embassy said.

“In 2016, about 250 participants from Samoa gained  opportunities to be trained in China. 

“Our training covers broad fields, including education, sport, agriculture and fishery, medical and health servicemedia, information technology, culture and art, disaster reduction and management, public administration, MSE Capacity Building; leadership skills for female officials.

Over the years China’s human resources training has promoted economic development and social progress of Samoa, enhanced mutual understanding and friendship between our two people, to expand and deepen mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields.”
