Filifilia Folau is a hardworking man.

The father of three children, the 39-year-old is a farmer and also sells bonus tickets for a club at Leauva’a on a part time basis.

“My family is my number one priority in this world, and as a father it is my responsibility to provide whatever I can to support them,” he said.

“So even if we don’t have enough I still want to offer the best I can so that my children will grow up knowing that their father did his best in this world to care for them.”

The Village Voice caught up with him while he was hustling and selling tickets.

“This is the only job I can get for now to support my family,” he said. 

“I know it doesn’t sound like a job because its gambling but it’s the least I can do for now to earn a living for my family.”

His work sees him walk from village to village. He was at Malie when we met him.

“Selling bonus tickets is not an easy job because we can’t force people to buy it unless they want to. So it all depends on how you approach people to buy it.

“You get different reactions, some people buy it others refuse and turn around and call you all sorts of names. I’ve seen it all.”

On a good week, he can make up to $300.

 “Personally, it’s really good money. I’m earning a lot from it but it doesn’t feel right, in fact it is very tiring,” he said.

For that reason, he is looking for another job,

“At this point in time and given how desperate I am for another job, I’ll take any workavailable,” he said.

Filifilia said he can be trusted with labour work.

 “To be honest, I don’t drink or smoke,” he said. “I dislike getting involved in gatherings that love to get drunk or bad mouth other people.

“I fear the Lord with all my heart and I am honest.”

Aside from his work as a bonus seller, Filifilia is also the leader of the untitled men of his village. He loves to support and contribute to village affairs.
