‘Keep life simple, live within your means’

Live within your means. That is the life motto of Semi Ioane, 45 of Aele.

He believes the way we live life is a choice, we can make it simple or we can complicate things.

“For me, I prefer to keep it simple in fact the only way to do it is to live within your means and what you can afford,” he told the Village Voice yesterday

The 45 year old man works at a taro plantation in Nu’u-fou.

“At the moment we are gathering taro to export overseas,” he said.

“This is what I do, I know it’s hard labour but I’m earning good money from it and I am happy,” he said.

A father to six children his whole life is devoted to his family.

“It is natural for all fathers to prioritise their children first… If not then something must be wrong with them.

“I love my children and they are the reason why I work hard, because in this world and time if the father just sits around doing nothing then his whole family will have nothing to eat.

“So no matter the difficulties of life, I never lose sight of my role and that is to provide for my children,” said Semi.

He is the only bread-winner of his family and like every father, he wants his children to have the best education.

“Education is the key to success and because of that I work even harder to ensure my children receive the education they need.

“I don’t want them to sell goods on the street. I want to lie in my grave knowing that I have done my best and my children are successful and will not struggle.”

Semi concluded his family is happy with what they have.

“It’s a happy feeling knowing that everyone in the family loves how our life is going instead of wanting what they cannot afford.

“I chose to lead my family to live a simple life and hopefully they will carry on that tradition, because needing something is different from wanting something,” he said.

“Live within your means and don’t want things you don’t need.”
