Virginity a myth?

Dear Editor

Re: My point of view

Mary’s virginity played nicely into the hands of the men who invented it. It helped them create this image of a virgin, chaste woman that all other women, ie their wives could emulate.

It was important that the men could reassure themselves by insisting on chasteness in their wives.

This way the men with property could be sure the eldest male heir, who was entitled to everything after they died, was in fact their own offspring.

What a foolproof method before the invention of DNA testing.

Mary’s virginity is a myth that white European/American men of property and wealth created to maintain control over their property and position in life just like the rest of the story is used today, mostly by men, to maintain their property and position.

Thank you Patrick
