A recently-established New Zealand company has won the bid to provide technical support for the 2019 Pacific Games’ broadcasting requirements.

The Pacific Broadcast Consulting Ltd was awarded the $166,260 contract on December 4, 2018. Besides the New Zealand firm, the Melanesian Media Group was the only other bidder.

The 2019 Pacific Games marketing and communications manager, Philippa Te Hira-Matatia, confirmed that no local companies submitted a bid.

When she was asked about the company, Te Hira-Matatia said based on records received through the tender process, the most recent business license for the company was issued in October last year.

According to the New Zealand Government’s business registries website, Pacific Broadcast Consulting Ltd was incorporated last October. A Shane Dereck Ormsby is the sole shareholder of the company established three months ago.

Te Hira-Matatia said the Pacific Broadcast Consulting Limited is a consultancy firm that specilises in offering technical, operational, project, management and training support to broadcast television companies in New Zealand and around the region.

“The managing director is Shane Ormsby and key associate is Brian Himsley. Both were instrumental in managing the technical and production requirements of the Van2017 Pacific Mini Games television coverage in December 2017, under the auspices of Telemedia Consulting Limited.”

“Shane Ormsby has an extensive career in broadcast television spanning over three decades, including freelancing for Television New Zealand, Sky Network Television and Sony New Zealand. And as team leader, he will assist with the planning and technical aspects for the delivery of broadcasting of the regional sporting event.”

“Brian Himsley has 45 years Television Broadcast experience in creative, technical and management positions.”

Te Hira-Matatia added that Himsley has worked for TCB 9, ATN 7, and ABC - all based in Sydney as well as the Sky Network Television in Auckland. Having joined Sky from the beginning, Brian’s management positions included production services manager, broadcast projects executive, and planning and development executive.

“Working with the late Keith Catchpole, Brian and project managers reporting to him, helped to develop the blueprint for SKY’s successful delivery of the Summer and Winter Olympics, and the Host Broadcasting of the 2011 Rugby World Cup.”

“Both Mr Orsmby and Mr Himsley have a combined pool of over 60 years experience in International Broadcasting for reputable companys such as SKY Television New Zealand, TVNZ, and ABC,” added Te Hira-Matatia.
