Mother’s role important

When one becomes a mother, you are no longer the center of your own universe.

This is the belief of Fia’ava’e Leiataua, 67, from Faleu Manono who says when you become a mother you relinquish that position to your children.

Mrs. Leiataua told the Village Voice team yesterday that a mother’s role is the most significant responsibility ever.

“A mother’s role in the Samoan society is reflected in the way her children act.”

“Mothers are the pillars of the Samoa society especially in strengthening the values of the young generation.”

Mrs. Leiataua also believes good mothers are mirrored through their children and husband.

“Samoan mothers are the caregivers of families; she should be aware of her children’s whereabouts every time.”

“Issues erupting from young girls in Samoa should be a concern for all mothers.”

“Leaving the young children unattended is one thing that can lead to these issues and not bonding well with them.”

Mrs. Leaitaua also said mothers should stay away from gambling.

“TV Bingo is by far taking all the money that should be used for kid’s food and school fees.”

Mrs. Leiataua also added mothers should take their responsibilities seriously.

“We as mothers are the caregivers, pillars as well as go to person for our children; we have to be aware of everything that is happening in our house.”
