It’s a long way from home for Guido B, 50, from Italy. 

Flying for approximately 28 hours from half away across the world to an island smacked in the middle of the Pacific Ocean has been nothing but an awesome experience. 

Thanks to Guido’s work, he is able to set foot on an island he has never heard of or dreamt of visiting before – Samoa. 

Guido was on his way to meet an Italian friend when Dear Tourist asked for five minutes of his time at the Tanoa Tusitala Hotel yesterday, and without hesitation, we got into a delightful conversation. 

Leaving his family behind at home has always been part of Guido’s work because he dedicates his time to providing aviation services. 

“I miss my family, but it is part of my job to be away from my family most of the time,” he said.

Guido is in Samoa for work purpose and will be leaving our shores in January 2018. 

And for him, his two-day stay so far has been one of the most captivating moments of his work experience, considering his work has taken him  to other parts of the world. 

“I went to the waterfall and I went to the other side of the island and it has been a really beautiful experience so far,” Guido said. 

“I saw beautiful things when I came and I hope in the future I will have time to do more things maybe get a car and drive around the island for sightseeing.”

Not only is the scenery a feast for his eyes, he has quite a taste for local food as well, saying he enjoys how locals cook up a delicious storm. 

The friendly local hospitality has also been amazing for Guido. 

“I love the people because they’re very friendly. The staff members of Tanoa Tusitala Hotel are very friendly, kind and offer a perfect service,” he said. 

With his experience so far, Guido said he would definitely recommend our island nation to his friends. 

“I would recommend Samoa to other people, and it is a really good place for relaxation and holiday.” 

“It’s a very peaceful place and it’s a real paradise and it’s a good place for a holiday and maybe to live because it is very quiet and there are no dangers.”

“A lot of places have a lot of crimes but here there is no problem and it is a very good place.” 

Guido said he would bring his family to Samoa if he was able to get more time for a holiday. 

“It is quite far from my home, it is a beautiful work place but I would need more days if I have to bring my family for a holiday here, considering the flight hours,” he added.
