The driver of a sedan is lucky to be alive after his vehicle rolled several times and fell into a storm water drain in Tuanaimato.

Eyewitnesses at the scene of the accident told Samoa Observer that the vehicle rolled a couple of times before ending up in the drain.

It's windscreen was smashed and the engine bonnet forced open by the impact of the crash.

Police, who are not allowed to speak to the press and were at the scene after tonight's accident, said the car was allegedly involved in a race as reported by members of the public.

"The driver appeared alright and has since been taken to the hospital for medical checkup," said a police officer.

The vehicle crash after 8 pm tonight comes two weeks after a 17-year-old boy was killed in a crash at Saleufi with the police alleging that he was speeding.
