Samoa welcomes Mexico’s new Ambassador

Samoa yesterday welcomed Mexico’s new Ambassador to Samoa, Jose Gerardo Traslosheros. 

A traditional ava ceremony at the Head of State’s residence greeted the new Ambassador.

This was before he met with the Head of State, His Highness Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi and the Masiofo, Her Highness Filifilia Tamasese to present his letter of credence.  

Mr. Traslosheros highlighted the similarities between Samoa and Mexico both culturally and politically.  

“As countries with strong cultural backgrounds and peaceful and friendly societies, Samoa and Mexico have a lot of things in common. 

We share our commitment with trade and global integration.  Our belonging to the World Trade Organization is part of that engagement,” he said. 

“Samoa and Mexico are also active parties in the multilateral arena on topics of significance such as the environment  and climate change.

We are member States of international instruments that matter like the Paris Agreement, already ratified by both of us.”

In accepting Mr. Traslosheros, His Highness Tui Atua said Samoa looks forward to working with Mexico in a number of areas.

“We continuously work together with Mexico on issue of mutual interest as sustainable development, human rights, poverty alleviation and many others.

Like Mexico, Samoa accords great importance to the issue of climate change for the very future of our world,” he said. 

“Mexico is a country rich with history and culture and I welcome your assertion of increasing the promotion of cultural and academic exchanges between our two countries.” 

Mr. Traslosheros graduated from Autonomous Technological Institute with a  degree on economics. 

He has a Bachelor of Art in Mathematics form the University of Winthrop, South Carolina, United Stated, a Master’s in Economics from Rutgers University, New Jersey.  

Mr. Traslosheros will return to Wellington, New Zealand on Thursday where he currently resides.
