At a young age, Ioane Setefano of Leauva’a is already a family man.

He provides for his family and carries out chores to ease the burden on his parents.

And not only that, he also dedicates his time to youth work in his church.

His commitment to his church has molded him to become a man for his family, upholding values of love, respect and care towards those he loves.

Ioane, 18, was on his way back home from church when the Village Voice team met him yesterday.

He had just finished helping with renovation works at the Leauva’a Catholic Church.

Ioane says he really enjoys his work as a youth in his Church.

“I don’t have a job at the moment, but to me working and helping my church is the right thing to do as a youth member,” Ioane said.

“I am volunteering myself to this work because my parents are too old to be part of it and I work on their behalf  and also this could be a good chance to prove to my parents that this will be the start of new good things for me”, he added.

Ioane says he was slowly looking for a job right now.

“I am slowly looking for a job to help out with my family and I am doing my best here now because I am also learning from this work here at our Church.”

“But I also think the work I am doing for my church helps me get more experience before getting a regular job.”

Ioane also shared about his contribution to his family.

“Before we start our church work, I’m always the one who goes back and forth to our plantation to provide food for my family; right now my younger brother is doing that while I do the cooking together with helping out with church work.

“Joining our church work taught me so much and it has helped me to step up and look after my family.”
