Apia West Union gets going

The Apia West Rugby Union has kicked off its 2018 season despite not having some of the key teams participate.

It started last weekend at the High Performance Unit’s Rugby field at Tuana’imato.

According to Apia West Rugby Union’s President, Aiono Tony Aiono, the Committee has already settled and solved the issue with the teams that moved to Apia Rugby Union.

“The committee has decided to use mutual respect as a long vision solution of the problem within the Union, and we have solved the issue,” he said.

“Apia West would also like to wish these teams the very best in future endeavors.”

Aiono wouldn’t delve into what the issues are.

The first game of the Apia West Rugby Union’s tournament last weekend saw Lepea’s Under-20 defeating Taufusi, 22-5.

The Under-20 Afega scooped the Shield, winning by default against Toamua.

In the Senior A division, Malie defeated Vaigaga Rugby Club 17 -10, while Afega was defeated by Lepea Rugby Club 25-7 at fulltime.

Taufusi won by default against Toamua Rugby Club during the Senior A Shield match.

Aiono added teams moving to Apia Rugby Union do not affect the Apia West Rugby Union.

“We are just focusing on the growth of domestic rugby, especially preparing for the Super Nine Championships coming soon.”
