The Minister of Education, Sports and Culture, Loau Keneti Sio, has appealed for public support regarding Samoa Airways.

Four months into the Airline’s operations, Loau said Samoa needs to get behind the national carrier to boost its fortunes.

“Samoa Airways is our airline,” he said.

“The profitability and the growth depend solely on the support of the Samoan people.”

Samoa Airways was launched in November last year.

A few months into its operations, sources told the Samoa Observer the airline is struggling to meet its monthly targets.

Loau said it is natural for businesses to struggle in the beginning. And while the Airline’s management is trying their best, he said members of the public, especially Samoans, can help.

“This is our airline, we should support it,” he said. “This is our identity, our pride and joy and this is what other countries can only dream of, but we have pulled through and we now have our airline.

“However in order for the airline to succeed, it needs the support of our Samoan people.”

Loau declined to comment on reports that Samoa Airways is financially struggling.

“But just like our Manu Samoa, that is our team, despite the poor results, we will still support our boys in blue because it is our team whether through finances or moral support,” he said.

“The same with Laauliolemalietoa Joseph Parker. He’s a son of Samoa and of course we have invested so much money in his journey because he’s Samoan.

“That is the same proposition that should be applied to our airline, it needs our support.”
