Inter island services depends on weather

Samoa Shipping Corporation’s (SSC) regular services between Upolu and Savai’i were again interrupted yesterday, due to bad weather.

This was confirmed by SSC Operation Manager, Pasia Taefu.

Mr. Taefu said the resumption of services would depend entirely on the weather.

Cancellation of services between the two main islands followed a Category 10 tropical depression warning that was issued by the Meteorology Service office yesterday at 5am.

“Tropical Depression 10F now lies west from the islands, this systems potential to develop into a tropical cyclone is moderate,” the warning read.

“An active convergence zone remains west with associated showers and gusty winds. Meanwhile, a fresh Northeast to North wind flow prevails over the Islands.”

Yesterday was not the first time the cancellation of inter island services has become an issue during the past few weeks as the country continues to experience bad weather.
