Fourteen chiefly titles were bestowed yesterday at Matiu’s family at Utuali’i.

Among the new titleholders were Leitufiaoatua Samasoni, Leulupuao Lino, Polutele Norman, Ai’i Auomoana, Tauiliili Clement, Suisala Fa’auila, Tulimaseali’i Taliaoa, Ligaliga Poleka, Ligaliga Malele, Aigamaua Simi, Suisala Aleni, Tauiliili Puna, Mauga Papa and Ligaliga Joe.

The ceremony began with a service conducted by Reverend Faraimo Ti’iti’i of the Congregational Christian Church of Samoa at Utuali’i.

New chief, Tuimaseali’i Taliaoa Toleafoa, said yesterday’s ceremony gave the new matai the blessing to serve the family.

“It’s a privilege for me and all the other members as well to have these titles,” he said.

“All I can say is that we are thankful to God for making it all possible.”

“We will try our best to serve our family, the village and the church in any way we can.”

The formalities were followed by a huge family feast enjoyed by everyone.
