Living inland of Nofoali’i is a blessing but it becomes a challenge when there is no water.

This is something 65-year-old Salu Seuava of Nofoali’i knows very well.

Speaking to the Village Voice team yesterday, he said their land is far inland and water pipes cannot reach there.

“So there is no water connection at this area of our village,” he tells the Village Voice.

“If there is no water there is no life, but lucky we make it through life because of some good Samaritans who let us fetch water from their water tank.

“The problem started when we moved here. I can’t really remember how long but I know it has been far too long.

“We fetch water from neighbors, and the rain helps us most of the time.”

Salu said he requested a water tank with the Red Cross.

“The Red Cross contacted a program back here in the village offering water tanks to people which water pipes cannot reach.

“My name was on the list but we didn’t get a water tank. We were the only family that had missed out.

“We were told that by White Sunday we will have our water tank but up till now we have received nothing.

“I went to the office again but we’re still waiting.”

Salu said life is great but with the challenge of water, things can become quite difficult.

“That’s the only problem here and we really need your help.

“We need water because I have my mother at home and my two sisters who have special needs.

“They can’t walk around to look for water for bathing and all that.”

As for money and their income, he said aside from his only son who works, he fishes for a living.

“We are doing okay with food, and everything but that’s the only problem is having no running tap at home.”
