Foul play has been ruled out in the death of an inmate at Tafa’igata Prison at the beginning of the month. Instead, the 48-year-old father from Aleisa, Solomona McCarthy, died from natural causes at the beginning of the week.

The Spokesperson of Tafa’igata Prison, Sagaga Galu Frost, said McCarthy has had a long battle with diabetes.

“He always carries his medications with him and it is why he usually goes to the hospital when his medications run out,” he said.

Sagaga said McCarthy lives with other prisoners in an open house.

The place is reserved for people with medical conditions.

After the Prison’s Divine Mercy on 3 March, the prisoner went to sleep. He never woke up again.

The Ministry of Police was alerted and McCarthy’s body was taken to the hospital.

The Police Media Officer, Su’a Muliaga Tiumalu, said a report from the hospital confirmed that the deceased man had diabetes.

McCarthy was jailed for three years for possession of narcotics.
