Girls’ day out in Apia

It was a girls’ day out for mother, Sara Veiru and daughter, Mariah Veiru, who were walking along the seawall on their return from a morning of pampering at the “Touch of Samoa”.

“We just got back from having a massage at the Touch of Samoa. My husband paid for both of us. It was really nice, it was a lot stronger than I’m used to, but it was still beautiful and nice.”

Although they have only been here for two days, they were familiar with the area, having been here last year, around the same time, where they stayed at the Tanoa Tusitala Hotel.

The natural hospitality of Samoans was something that Sara said, was the draw card for their return.

“This is our second time back, we came in March last year and we loved it,” said Sarah.

“The people are so friendly, not like in Australia where no one says hello, no one smiles. My husband is Samoan, so we also came back to see the relatives.

“Last year we also stayed at the Tanoa Tusitala Hotel and we liked it then and decided this time to stay there again.”

While Sarah is not a big fan of the hot weather, she is a big fan of our local markets and one of her favourite things to do is visit the markets, and while hubby was off doing the errands, mother and daughter decided to hit the local market for some shopping.

“We are waiting for my husband to get back from the ferry because they’ve gone to drop a cousin off to Savai’i, so my daughter and I are just going to go to the markets and have a look around while we are waiting.

“I love the flea markets here. I don’t like the weather too much, I find it too hot. But it’s not too bad this time around; in March when we last came it was so hot.”

For Sarah, a highlight so far was visiting her husband’s family, but they also looked forward to hitting the big island where they plan on staying at the Vaimoana Hotel – also a favourite from their last visit.

“We are going to Savai’i for three days and we are going to be staying at the same hotel we stayed in last time – the Vaimoana. It was beautiful there, definitely plan on swimming with the turtles.

“I love it here and I just wouldn’t have it any other way. We’ll probably be back again this time next year. And heck yeah I’d recommend Samoa to my friends and family in Sydney.

“There’s not a lot of advertising for Samoa in Sydney, I feel like there’s more advertising in the country to locals, but would be nice to see some of these ads in Australia.”
