Vaiala Beach School at Vailima held a Car Boot sale to fundraise for the development of their school.

Annie Meredith, a teacher of Years 7 and 8 said the event was organised by Vaiala Beach School Parents Association.

“This is a group of parents who like to raise money for the school which then gets to be used for resources and different things. We really appreciate it,” she said.

“The money raised will go into the Parents Association.

“A lot of school children were selling things that they have made like some girls here have made gift papers to sell.”

Ms. Meredith said that this year is the first time that the school has held a Car Boot Sale.

“From the outcome we have seen today we are hoping that this will become an annual event for the school,” she said.

“Today we have parents selling cookies, pies, curry and rice, burgers and then we have some of the students as well who are selling their creative things like paper designs.

“So one person’s trash is another person’s treasure, and it’s really fun to see everyone come to support the event today.”

Ms. Meredith said it is up to the Parents Association to decide what the money will be used for.

“We are hoping to get some computers but the Association will prioritise the student’s education resources here at the school,” she said.

“It’s a lovely day and we didn’t expect this many people but we are very happy to see the support of the community and especially the parents.”
