Seeking a job to help his family

Aunese Alema is 32-years old from the village of Luatuanuu.

He works as a fisherman to provide for his wife and family of  two children

No one else in his family has formal work to do.

Yesterday he was making his way to the plantation after which he planned to  head out fishing despite the poor weather conditions.

At first, Aunese was employed but then he decided to stay home to work the land because his wife’s parents were also living with his family under the one roof.

“I used to work as a carpenter before but I stay home for good now because there was no one in my family to do the work that a man does,” he told Village Voice yesterday.

“I work in the plantation to get food for our family and I also sell some of our crops in our village.

“I spend my whole time providing for my family because my wife hasn’t got a job so it is my job to make sure that my family has everything.

“The cost of living is very expensive for my family and sometimes we cannot afford goods from the shops.

“So I have decided to start looking for a job again because my kids are in school and when it comes to family obligations, it does cost us lots of money.

“I will try to get a job as soon as possible” he said.

“Sometimes I work as both a farmer and a fisherman which I can tell you is not easy.

“Whether it’s a rainy or sunny day I have to work because my family depends on me and so I have to be strong for that reason.

Mr. Alema says that whatever job he is offered, he will accept it and work hard.

“I am a hard working person and I know very well that these days there are hardly any good people offering jobs.

“But for me, getting a job is something that I am looking forward to having because I take my family and my children as my first priority.”
