Re: Why are we not lending a helping hand?

In my opinion, Samoa, whilst sympathetic to the cause, has more pressing problems to worry about than a Melanesian dispute that not even the Melanesians can agree on.

Fiji and P.N.G. are in support of the U.N. position which is that West Papua is a part of Indonesia whilst Vanuatu and Solomon Islands are in favour of West Papuan independence.

P.M. Tuilaepa was outspoken against the last coup in Fiji when a military strongman took over the democratically elected government of Laisenia Qarase but he was criticised in some Samoan quarters.

Yet Fiji is much closer to Samoan shores and more central to Samoan interests than West Papua.
